David has been involved with ceramics for most of his life, first working in the industry, and for the past twenty or more years sharing a studio with his wife and fellow potter Louise, until her death in 2016.

David produces earthenware pottery and framed tiles decorated with themes from the natural world of countryside and seashore. He has always loved to draw and paint and has adapted watercolour techniques for use with ceramic pigments. This gives him the freedom to illustrate the ceramic surface in his own personal way.

David continues to work from his Leicestershire home studio, but always with an eye on the distant coast.

In the upstairs Showcase gallery from February to April 2019

I live in Bury St Edmunds and have been a potter for 12 years.  I work in stoneware therefore my work is fired at a high temperature and can be used in the freezer, oven, microwave, dishwasher and outside throughout the year.

I love the calming influence of pottery.  There is something meditative about what I do.  Taking something basic (clay) and handmaking it into something useful and beautiful.

The ‘Face Pots’ I make are all unique, no two pots have the same style or name, each one is individual.  Most of my work is created on the potter’s wheel.

I teach evening classes at the West Suffolk College during term time.  I am never happier than when I have mud under my fingernails!
