MGMT's 3rd album continues the progression started on the previous release "Congratulations", moving further into the outer limits of psychedelia. Oracular Spectacular captures the zeal and reckless abandon of youth in every track, that unbridled exploratory energy accentuating moments of deep wisdom.

Forty years after the Summer of Love (and 30 years after the Summer of Hate), MGMT is celebrating the grand re-opening of the third eye of the world with Oracular Spectacular, an enigmatic and prophetic collection of hallucinatory sounds and hook-riddled Pop tones for the new millennium. Guggenheim Museum in New York to create a wholly unique live music experience in conjunction with the Maurizio Cattelan retrospective All, which opened that autumn. As other reviewers have stated, there are slew of discernible influences in their music, if you choose to go looking for them, but no particular artist or era stands out as a primary source.Newly remastered from the original analog tapes, this 2LP edition of MGMT’s psychedelic rock masterpiece from 2010 is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and features the paradoxical “Flash Delirium.

There'll probably be more pressure for the band to next time bring the melodic bits up higher into the mix.The vinyl mix is supposedly "enhanced," however, on certain songs, like "Kids" (last song on Side 1), the bass is pounding away, and it sounds a little distorted, and the vocals are fuzzy-sounding. Definitely a stand out album of the 00s (and definitely a unique band) and should be up there with the likes of Green Day's American Idiot, The Killers' Hot Fuss and Radiohead's Kid A in the best alt rock albums of the decade.

Nods to their likely heroes aside, MGMT crafted a brilliant and personal work of art with OS, deftly achieving multiple feats: chart-topping, smash hit bangers (we all know the ones) that deliver the dopamine but never sound stale, weird, beautiful, abstract artistic tracks, eye-watering satire ("Time to Pretend"), willfully "stupid" pop efforts that unintentionally sound 200% better than almost all pop tracks released today, a poetic rainbow assortment of memorable lyrics, and complex themes both timely and timeless. After A/B the living shit out of them (with headphones), I can say that I like the 88697195121 version better than the MOV version. It's now one of my all-time favorite albums and strove considerably to cement MGMT as one of my most beloved music groups; I rotate it regularly through my car's CD player during daily commutes.

The album features MGMT's signature song "Kids", the funky track "Electric Feel" (famously covered by Weezer) and the smashing opening track "Time to Pretend". The album features some of MGMT's most popular and well-known songs, such as "Electric Feel" and "Kids.

In 2021, the album was re-released in a limited edition RSD Essentials pink vinyl format, making it a must-have for vinyl collectors and fans of MGMT alike. The successor to 2008’s Oracular Spectacular and 2010’s Congratulations , MGMT sees the band continuing to push themselves to expand the boundaries of modern pop music. This is an idea that will split people into those who think it's a muggy and terrible idea and others who think it's a brilliant idea. The panning from left to right sounded not only better in clarity, but did a better job at creating the effect. It gave the world evergreen hits such as "Kids", "Electric Feel" and "Time to Pretend" which have inspired, and continue to inspire new generations of artists and music fans alike to this day - those three songs combined have been streamed over 2 billion times on audio streaming platforms since released. MGMT release their fourth album Little Dark Age - the follow-up to their 2013 self-titled album is released via Columbia. In fact, maybe in a few years we'll see another release of the album, but only with all the studio channels available so you could do your own mix of the record?
