i’ve loved dolly’s previous 2 books: her memoir everything i know about love and her fiction debut ghosts, so i’m looking forward to whatever she does next. In my opinion, it is a short (230 pages) and easy read, but very informative and accessible, in which we can identify with many of the doubts mentioned.

If you're looking for some encouragement and advice with issues in your life, then this meaningful book just might hit the spot. I thought this was Dolly talking about her love life and friendship but turns at to be about her Agony aunt work. Although I didn't love Everything I Know About Love at the time I read it (and have already reached the conclusion that it was a matter of right book-wrong time), I really like Dolly's writing. I devoured this book, as I have all her books because her writing style really connects home for me.uk will use the information you provide on this form to be in touch with you and to provide updates and marketing. She is a columnist for The Sunday Times Style and has also written for GQ , Red , Marie Claire and Grazia . I wish this book was longer, and would have loved to read her thoughts on more specific and nuanced topics, since even topics that didn't directly relate to me in this book allowed for her to impart some universal wisdom; however I understand these were taken from her Sunday Times column and can only appeal to so niche an audience. She is the author of two Sunday Times bestselling works of non-fiction: Everything I Know About Love , which won a National Book Award (UK) for Autobiography of the Year and was made into a BBC One TV Series, and Dear Dolly , a collection of her agony aunt columns from The Sunday Times Style magazine. By writing it, I was acknowledging that someone might care about me; that they'd be able to say the right thing without knowing me.

Nothing like zooming through 50-odd advice columns on a Sunday evening to put all your worries about life at ease. While I was reading this book I felt like I was almost having a conversation with an older sister that I never had.

She puts so much thought and effort into her answers and some of the problems she deals with are SO relatable. Her writing is funny but also poignant and actually gives time to problems individuals have that may otherwise be dismissed as ‘pointless drivel’. They include breakups and body issues, families, friendships, dating, divorce, the pleasures and pitfalls of social media, sex, loneliness, longing, love and everything in between.Alderton is so gifted at making people care' Marian Keyes --This text refers to the paperback edition. In fact, it’s not ‘pointless drivel’ when it is someone’s experience and Dolly treats these problems with respect, warmth and wit, which is exactly the type of writing I enjoy. Dolly Alderton at her wise, warm and witty best’ RedSince early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style. Next time you feel one of those further cracks of heartbreak, think of it as a strange sort of privilege. What I liked about her responses to each reader were that they were carefully planned, and considerate of both the reader’s feelings and the person/people they were in conflict with.

Because I was feeling something that other people had felt and therefore I wasn't, as I suspected, the loneliest and strangest woman in the world. What I learnt from sharing my most private pain with a semi-professional problem-solver was that the mere act of asking for help was, in itself, healing. I did find most of the questions and answers to be for those quite a bit younger than myself, but there are a few that pertain to Gen X readers. some of the excerpts applied to me today, some will apply to me in the future, some maybe never but i enjoyed reading each piece so much.
